Step-by-Step Guide to Wudu

Step 1: (Niyyah) & Saying "Bismillah"
Begin with a sincere intention in your heart to purify yourself for the sake of Allah. Then, verbally or silently, say "Bismillah" (In the Name of Allah).

Step 2: Wash the Hands (3 times)
Start by washing hands together. Using your left hand, pour water over your right hand and begin washing it thorough from the fingertips all the way up to wrist.

Step 3: Rinse the Mouth (3 times)
Take water in your right hand, bring it to your mouth, and rinse thoroughly — moving it over your teeth, gums, cheeks, and the roof of your mouth.

Step 4: Rinse the Nose (3 times)
"Take water in your right hand, gently sniff it into your nostrils — just deep enough to properly clean, not enough to choke or hurt."

Step 5: Wash the Face (3 times)
After completing the rinsing of the mouth and nose, you now begin washing your face. This is one of the most important steps in Wudu.

Step 6: Wash the Arms up (3 times)
Start with the right arm. Wash from the fingertips up to and including the elbow three times. Repeat with the left arm.

Step 7: Wipe the Head (1 time)
After finishing both arms up to the elbows, wet both of your hands with fresh water. Place your wet palms on the front of your head at the hairline.

Step 8: Wipe the Ears (1 time)
after wiping the head, use the same moisture remaining on your hands to wipe your ears. Do not take water unless your hands have become completely dry.

Step 9: Wash the Feet to Ankles (3 times)
Start with the right foot. Wash it thoroughly up to the ankles, making sure to clean between the toes. Repeat three times. Then do the same with the left foot.
